The qualified Food Safety Manager has at least 5 years of food safety and consumables manufacturing experience and is a raving fan of the Trader Joe's concept. A Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, Microbiology or equivalent strongly preferred. This role is based in our office in Boston, MA.

The Food Safety Manager is responsible for:

  • Reviewing vendor food safety documentation and identifies non-conformities (i.e. FDA/USDA requirements and/or Trader Joe's expectations).
  • All aspects of the Trader Joe's Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP).
  • Conducting thorough review for new and existing vendors and their Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) benchmarked audit for every site that processes, packs, stores, or distributes to a Trader Joe's Distribution Center location.
  • Providing technical guidance for and Product Developers on correctly interpreting and understanding vendor food safety and regulatory documentation to help identify potential problems during the product development process.
  • Supporting the Customer Product Incident and Customer Relations teams when researching questions or potential food safety concerns. 
  • Working collaboratively with other departments.

The Food Safety Manager has:

  • A minimum of 5+ years in the food industry or related field, preferably working in a consumables manufacturer setting.
  • Strong knowledge of HACCP, FSMA Preventive Control Rules and Hazard Analysis and/or USDA food safety inspections standard with experience in the development or implementation of food manufacturing Food Safety Programs preferred.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to prioritize multiple priorities, and strong attention to detail.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word & Excel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication with a strong emphasis in collaboration with all levels of the company, vendors and customers.
