Pay Grade/Pay Range:   Minimum: $15.48 - Midpoint: $18.56 (Hourly N2)

Department/Organization: 219101 - University Libraries

Normal Work Schedule:  Tuesday - Friday 8:00am to 4:45pm, Saturday 10:45am to 7:00pm

Job Summary:  The Library Public Services Assistant assists patrons in the use of the library and its resources. Creates, edits, and maintains records in libraries online database system. Supports various library units depending upon department assigned, any of the following: reserves and current periodicals, circulation, interlibrary loan, acquisitions and government documents, library ordering, purchasing and budgeting. Obtains and lends materials outside the University campus. Provides routine library facilities and equipment support. May supervise student workers.

Additional Department Summary:  Serves as the Building Representative for Bruno Library to report all building maintenance issues and coordinates with the Libraries Project Manager on submitting building work orders. Assists with training and oversight of student employees. Manages special events in the branch, as well as assists with calendaring and preparation of spaces for instructional workshops. Maintains and orders all supplies for Bruno Library. Gathers and reports assessment data related to library operations. Participates in the provision of public information services, both in-person and via chat service. Assists with the provision of point-of-need support related to Research Data Services (RDS). Processes new materials, withdraws materials, updates/corrects records in the online catalog, and places equipment on Reserve for the branch. Provides support for Inter-Library Loan and Document Delivery Service requests. Serves as backup for the Library Public Services Supervisor, monitoring student assistants. Serves as the backup for circulation issues and problems. Staff positions in the University Libraries can be moved to different library buildings on campus based on needs assessments.

Special duties specific to this Branch include:
The position typically works Tuesday - Saturday, but hours may be adjusted as library opening hours change. May occasionally be required to work evenings and weekends, depending on staff coverage. Position has backup responsibility for Inter-Library Loan and Document Delivery Service by filling requests. Serves as the sole staff member responsible for Saturday supervision in two Branch Libraries: Bruno and Rodgers. Opens Rodgers and closes Bruno on Saturdays. Responsible for Bruno Course Reserves and assists instructors with placing materials in Blackboard.

Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and two (2) years of library experience; OR associate's degree or higher and some library experience.
