Minimum Requirements:
Age: 21 to under 35 (unless allowed by Illinois State Statute)
High School Diploma or GED
Valid Driver's License
Minimum 60 college credit hours from an accredited institution (waived for veterans with 24 months of honorable active duty or 180 days of combat duty)
Vision: Uncorrected minimum 20/40; corrected to 20/20 with both eyes open
Academy Certification: Successful completion of Illinois Police Training Academy's Basic Law Enforcement Training Course
Additional Requirements:
P.O.W.E.R. card strongly encouraged
Submission of agreements and waivers as specified
Hiring Process:
Orientation: View mandatory session.
Written Exam: Achieve a score of 70 or higher.
Oral Interview: Conducted with the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners.
Assessments: Pass psychological evaluation, background investigation, polygraph, medical screening, and drug screening.
Training: Complete Illinois Police Training Academy's Basic Law Enforcement Training Course.
Immediate Disqualifiers:
Does not meet minimum requirements
Felony convictions or crimes involving moral turpitude
Specific misdemeanor convictions under Illinois Criminal Code
Classification as a conscientious objector
Failure to attend oral interview
Failure in background check, psychological evaluation, polygraph, drug screening, medical exam, or eye exam
